Thank you for being here. This is a truly challenging time of transition that has forced me out of my comfort zone, and pushed me to recognize the value of being able to offer unique and engaging experiences. Recently, I have been working through the challenges of my own COVID19 life changes and what my adaptive life looks like.
As I have been watching my daughter continue to grow, and working to maintain my own identity throughout the this time, I have been able to grow while adjusting my own self-care needs. As my social awareness has heightened as a mother and Black Woman, I began to make videos to address mindfulness and stress, and during this time, I have found a few that may be helpful.
With everything going on, I empathize with everyone in these times of increased anxiety and I hope that as we learn to adjust to the "new normal" of the SARS-COVID adaptations, that people are also able to create a regimen of self-care, whether it's journaling for 5 minutes everyday or meditating on an affirmation throughout the day, that allow them to hold their mental health and wellness up as the priority that it is. As we continue to accept that life is different, it's important to have time for self reflection and stabilization.
As part of my own journey, I have implemented taking time to enjoy thought provoking entertainment which includes movies, television, YouTube videos and news articles. I have implemented my adaptation to change through organizing, volunteering, working, and educating my growing child, all remotely. I've also continued my education through various forms of distance learning that have been extremely useful as quarantine has been an expanding reality for me, during this time. With this, I realized I have a connection with remote and virtual living that I am grateful for, and can offer some insight into.
Part of that is offering support and encouragement through systa-hood including sister support circles. As I grow a Systa-hood of engagement and care, I also would love to encourage others to join and support Systa-hood. You can support us by recognizing how we thrive and offering resources, and opportunities for us to do so. You can join us and build support, adapt to the new challenges, and expand the Free Your Phire Systa-Hood, by setting the intention to create one of our spaces on your own. We can exchange meaningful resources and be supportive of each other as we continue to grow Safe spaces for our older and little Systas to unfold into their truest selves.
My community is currently coming together on August 20, 2020 at 8:30pm to support and encourage each other. We're reflecting on "Fast Colors" on Prime Video Or Nappily Ever After on Netflix, which both take two different approaches to Black women who are finding themselves through their journeys and being empowered as they move forward. Watching a movie is meant to be relaxing, but engaging and offer time to reflect, while also giving a sense of self through representation and experiences.
For many of us as Black women that have had a pathway through life that is non-tradtional or has had various challenges, we may have had to survive or manage through the impact of trauma and de-stabilization in many parts of life, and we may no longer have the same visions for our lives that we had for years, because as COVID19 has changed our expectations, so has the environmental, economical, and technological fluctuations in the world around us.
Again, I thank you, for reading about our community and taking time to learn more. As we take on new roles in our communities and seek out new ways to deal with old problems, we have to remember to take some time for ourselves. With that, the video above discusses coming into the new week with an understanding of how to take care of yourself.
A quick "Mindful Minute" is an approach to life that can be applied every hour and can make a world of difference. If you are encouraged by this video, feel free to follow me on twitter and instagram: @freephire
